The Icon and MOPLA are pleased to announce the upcoming exhibition of Dennis Keeley Photographs: 25 Years of Music. Keeley made hundreds of portraits of musicians from the 1970s 'til early in 2004. This exhibition features photographs made in the commission of album covers and cd packaging, and also includes many never before seen personal images of musicians. Until he accepted the role of Chair of the Photography and Imaging program at Art Center College of Design, Dennis Keeley was one of the more sought-after photographers of musicians in Los Angeles.
In the twenty-five year history of what some would say was a golden era of Los Angeles and the giant record companies, Mr. Keeley's photographs reveal a subtext that renegotiates portraiture, the conditions of celebrity, popular and eclectic music, and a tension between the public image and the private moment.
Stay tuned for announcements of a gallery walk through and closing reception...
Exhibition closes on Sunday, May 26th.
